Men can craft too!

September 20th, 2015

It's been such a busy summer ~ geez I can't believe my last post was back in July!  YIKES!

So we've all been accused of stereotyping at one time or another.  Here's a "for instance"... People always think that women are the "crafter's" extraordinaire.  Having been exposed to fellow crafter's for years, as well as having a father who was quite a handy woodworker, and a brother-in-law that was also a wonderful woodworker, and did beautiful macrame pieces, I never agreed with that particular stereotype.

That said, I'd like to introduce you to a new friend of mine that will help change those skeptical thoughts that men can't craft.  His name is Adam, and he's a co-worker of who recently relocated from Colorado.  He not only crochets beanies like a madman, he can bake like a fiend (he even has his own Kitchen Aid!), he does woodwork and loves to garden!

Doesn't that pie look yummy?  IT WAS!

Hey, male celebrities that are known to do crafts are...Ryan Gosling (of The Notebook fame), David Arquette and Rusell Crowe all knit, Tom Selleck and George Clooney both do woodworking, Johnny Depp paints portraits--so does Jim Carrey!  Pretty cool huh?

I've said it before, crafting is a great outlet.  It's been proven to lower blood pressure, etc.  I know that it sure puts ME in a better place when I'm crafting!  And the people that you meet with similar interests is amazing.  WIN what are you waiting for???  Get crafting!  🙂

Crafter Magnetism (Part 2)

July 16th, 2015

The other day, I shared with you how I seem to "attract" fellow crafters no matter where I go.  It's something that I absolutely LOVE to share with everyone -- crafting!  Whether it be a tip on how to do something, or where to buy something, or asking for advise on a craft that they do!  I'm always learning myself!

As promised, here are more samples of crafts that fellow workers have shared with me...SUCH TALENT!  🙂

Kim's little furry pets are sooo adorable!   They each have their own little personality.

20150314_114520 Emily & Sawako made this great Elephant diaper cake for a baby shower.  Can you believe it was their first time?

IMG_7295 Starlani makes something for her bowling banquet each year.  This particular year it was a bowling pin ornament.  Love it!

I could go on and on with examples of the talent that I'm surrounded with at work.  At another time, I'll share with you the talents of my wonderful circle of friends AND family!

Hope you're having a great's almost the weekend!  🙂

Happy Crafting!

Crafter Magnetism?

July 13th, 2015

It seems like no matter where I go, my "crafter magnetism" just attracts fellow crafter's my way!  It's an unspoken bond that brings us together in fellowship even if it's not a similar type of craft.  I've made many friends and started many conversations just by sharing crafting tips or learned about a new type of craft just sitting waiting at the airport, visiting Paul's mom at the hospital, or doing crafts during lunch at work!

Here's just a sampling of a few that I've come across!

  Fuki's (co-worker) rice bowl's that were featured at Empty Bowl Hawai'i 2015

goos pics 077 Kim(co-worker) Whassup with this Stitch polymer charm -- she makes many other characters as well!

20150313_131528 Christine (co-worker)  She made this totally cute crocheted dinosaur for a baby shower!

20150328_100030 Trudy (co-worker) She made this ultra-cute turtle out of felt!  I've never worked with felt!  Cool huh!

I tell you, there are such wonderfully talented people all around me -- more to come tomorrow!

MARK YOUR CALENDAR! Empty Bowl Hawai'i 2015 - April 11th

March 24th, 2015

Be sure to mark your calendars for the upcoming 4th annual Empty Bowl Hawai'i 2015 on April 11th!

6-9pm / 445 + 449 Cooke Street and Agora in Kaka'ako

A co-worker of mine has been involved in making pottery for the last several years (something I have been wanting to do since FOREVER, but that's another story).  The other day, she was telling me about her involvement in an event that's being put on by the Hawai'i Potters' Guild along with artists from The Honolulu Museum of Art School, University of Hawaii at Manoa, Windward Community College, Hickam Air Force Base, Iolani Potters, Leeward Community College, Makua Alii Potters and high school students from Mid-Pacific Institute and Punahou School.

The Empty Bowl Project is a grassroots effort that started in the 90's in Michigan and has grown in the U.S. and internationally to fight hunger.

Great concept...potters make and donate beautiful ceramic bowls to this awesome event.  Participating local restaurants such as Cocina, Mariposa, Big City Diner, Café Laufer, Le Bistro, Murphy's Bar & Grill, Roy's Restaurants, Side Street Inn, Tiki's Grill & Bar, Town, and 12th Avenue Grill will entice you with a serving of scrumptious soups from their renown restaurants.  There will be beverages for sale, and the sounds of The Fresh Preps band as well as Blue Grass Bands will provide the event a festive flair.  Sounds like a great event dontcha think?  🙂

You can get your advance tickets for $20 at or purchase a ticket on the day of the event for a $25 contribution.  Enjoy a simple meal of soup, bread and take home a beautiful handmade bowl of your choice!  This event is presented by the Hawai'i Potters' Guild and is a benefit for Hawai'i Meals on Wheels.

Below is a sneak peak of the beautiful bowls that my co-worker will be contributing to the event!   I can't wait to see all of the bowls that will be there!!!  Get your tickets now!

Crazy Drivers!!!

March 4th, 2015

Okay, they must've let the nutso/rude drivers out of their cages.

I get cut off not once, but TWICE by inconsiderate drivers with no blinkers that barely have enough room to cut in.  Then when I do let them in, don't even have the decency to acknowledge the fact that they've cut in by saying thank you!  One even cut into the next lane over almost causing an accident.  I don't know...maybe HE had to use the bathroom badly or something.  Geez!

Bikers beware...I even saw a car that was turning right totally disregard a biker who was right next to him and cut him off. can only start crossing when the white walk sign is DO know that once that do not walk sign starts blinking you shouldn't start running across the crosswalk right?  That's a $130 fine if you get caught.  So is jaywalking.  Also, if a vehicle doesn't stop for a pedestrian that's in the same half of the roadway as you, you can get fined $130!

Come on people.  We all have places to be, places to go.  Let's get there with a little courtesy out there.

Have a great day everyone...challenge for the day and every a stoplight, look over at the driver next to you and SMILE.  🙂
